Sometimes democracies die from corruption, fascism, or a military coup. But other times it succumbs to terminal stupidity. An example of how this works occurred on Feb. Plenty, as it turns out. Not surprisingly, the organization he headed has made a complete botch of the anti-Semitism question. Instead of defining it as a hatred of Jews qua Jews and leaving it at that, it devised an eleven-point list that starts off reasonably enough but then veers off into theater of the absurd.

Only a few hundred meters between the bereaved father and the person who killed his son. That weapon was not confiscated, and no charges were brought against the settler who fired it. On one occasion the rifle belonging to the settler, a farmer named Eitan Zeev who lives in the Sde Ephraim outpost and allegedly shot Khaled, was confiscated. That was last August, when he shot and wounded a Palestinian from the village of Bidiya. Iftach Norkin, intervened to get the rifle returned to settler-shooter Zeev, and — oddly and outrageously — had submitted a favorable character opinion of him to the court to consider last fall. Last Friday, in the depths of the night, Zeev shot another Palestinian. This time he also killed him.

Israeli settlements are civilian communities inhabited by Israeli citizens , almost exclusively of Jewish ethnicity,   built in violation of international law on lands occupied by Israel in the Six-Day War. Israel has established Jewish neighborhoods in East Jerusalem and in the Israeli-occupied portion of the Golan Heights , both of which Israel has effectively annexed, and as such Israel does not consider the developments there to be settlements. The international community regards both territories as held under Israeli occupation and the localities established there to be illegal settlements.
It serves as the administrative center of the Jenin Governorate and is a major center for the surrounding towns. Jenin was known in ancient times as the village of "Ein-Jenin" or "Tel Jenin". Jenin has been identified as the place " Gina " mentioned in the Amarna letters from the 14th century BCE. At the time, it was a vassal state of the New Kingdom of Egypt.
